Tank attach strip

These tank attach strip are made from some ali sheet. They are bent to shape as well as possible then inserted between the skin and end rib. Once everything is clamped in place the rivet holes are drilled using the skin as a guide.

LE cradle and Left Wing LE

19th April 2010

Made a ply cradle to assist in with the assemble of the leading edge assemblies and fuel tanks. Pretty much as per the one suggested in the plans.

I then assembled the left side LE assembly in the cradle, matchdrilled all the holes and then transferred everything onto the spar. I drilled the LE skin to the spar with is all cleco’d in place.

Got a bit off task today. While tidying up I saw the elevator trim servo and remembered I needed to make a couple of shims to mount between it and the bracket to stop it interferring witht he rivets that hold the bracket in place.

I knocked these out in about 15 minutes.

The main skins were cleco’d to the spars and ribs and match drilled.

I also took this opportunity to make the cutout in the left lower skin for the SafeAir1 pitot mast. This was easier than expected and turned out really well. It’s located one bay outboard of the aileron bellcrank in the left wing.

Taped the template in place and marked the cutout
