Priming
31st December 2009
Primed the tiedown parts and rear spar components. I also masked and primed the main spar flanges where the countersinks are for the tank attach and inspection panel nutplate rivets and screws. The countersinking removed the annodizing in those areas and I don’t want my spars corroding!
Tiedown brackets and spacers
30th December 2009
Today I got the 4 spacers made that fit behind the tiedown brackets. They are fabricated from Ali bar stock as shown below.
Then I prepped all the tiedown parts and rear spar components ready for priming. I’ll do that tomorrow.Â
More Wing Stand Work…
05th December 2009
Got the four wing stands bolted to the concrete floor. I have 4 as I’m planning to build both wings at once.
Wing Stands
04th December 2009
A few months ago my father-in-law made up some very nice steel supports to use while building the wing. Well now the wing is about to be started I decided to get them ready to use.
I added some ali angle supports which are supported by 10mm threadded rod so can be very accurately adjusted until they are 100% level. Thanks to Rudi Greyling for this idea and design.
Finished Left Elevator
03rd December 2009
It’s good to be back working on the plane after a long break.
I riveted the left elevator closed and bent the tabs that close off where the trim tab cutout is. As per the instructions I made a couple of wooden bending blocks, clamped it all together then made the bend. It was finished off with a few passes of the flat set in the rivet gun to make it nice and flat.
Then I finished the riveting off on the left elevator and riveted the tabs closed.
New Workbench and Back to Work!!
01st December 2009
Well I have had a bit of a break from the project for about 3 months. Been busy with our new baby, then i sold my model aircraft business and then to wrap it off I went to Saudi Arabia for 5 weeks with work.
The good news is I have lots more room now and I have just built a new workbench. It is nice and high so i don’t have to bend over it, is on nice castors and the top is supported by BIG steel beams so it’s dead flat.
Pics to come soon…
