The SG-1 project is
owned by Gregg MacPherson and Murray Haszard.
Although it may look like we are inundated with helpers, the project has
always hovered between being a tiny Akafleig Auckland and a
one man project. The Akafleig mode normally has taken the form of internships
by student engineers from Europe about to complete
their degree or DipEng. Over time, there were also one or two really strong
helpers from Auckland (James Pengelly, Neil Waterhouse),
and the occasional volunteer. I'd like to try to thank everybody, but
I'll probably miss someone out.
If you want to help
the project in some way please see the bottom of this page.
Design and engineering
Concept, aerodynamic design and aero' computational work is by Gregg MacPherson.
Gregg also developed the structural concepts, aero loads and detail design.
A couple of our intern engineers deserve special thanks for the help they
gave on the aeroelastics (Roland Broers) and the structural
composites design (Peter Scholz).
Interns (in chronological
order)
Mathew Hassall (Kiwi engineer)
Roland Broers (Delft Aerospace)
Peter Scholz (Studying at Braunchweig, leader of Akaflieg Braunchweig,
SB 14)
Tom Broekhuijsen (Delft Aerospace)
Craig Player (Kiwi engineer)
Julien Dorol (aero composites, from France)
Ludovic Waren (E.N.I.T. France). Now the French junior national champion
pilot!
Thanks to

Rod Mackay, Paul Schofield, David Moody, Roger
Eaton, Colin Palmer, Peter Alexander, Joshua Daisey, Samuel Dupland, Volker
Heydecke, Bob Kuykendall and the guys on the GliderTech list,
Thanks also for
help from

The future
The project progresses, but unevenly. We may still accept interns or visiting
helpers even into the test flying stage, so people interested should contact
us. Also, we would like more participation from the local Auckland glider
enthusiasts, so if this project is interesting or you have something to
contribute, please make contact with us. So far most of the help for the
project has come all the way from Europe. Huh?
The pilots for the
test flying and flight evaluation are not set yet. There are many good
kiwi pilots who would in practice be capable for these roles with some
technical preparation. We don't know yet what rules we will have to work
within. We'll update on this later.
What we need
Even with Murray's continued financial support and even though no one
get's an income the project is tending towards debt, especially towards
it's completion. So if anyone is able to donate to the project please
help.
A ballistic recovery
chute (BRS 900 soft pack or similar) would be useful but is not within
our financial means.
A usable or fixable trailer that we can adapt for the SG-1.
